Bulelwa Mkutukana, known professionally as Zahara, was a South African singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Born on November 9, 1987, in East London, South Africa, she gained widespread recognition for her soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics.

Her debut album, “Loliwe,” released in 2011, was a massive commercial success, selling over 100,000 copies in just a few weeks. The album’s title track, “Loliwe,” became a national anthem, and Zahara quickly became a household name.

Zahara’s music often explored themes of love, loss, and social justice. Her songs were sung in Xhosa, her native language, and English, making her music accessible to a wide audience.

Sadly, Zahara passed away on December 11, 2023, at the age of 36. Her untimely death was a significant loss to the South African music industry.
