Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, better known by his stage name Mr. Eazi, is a Nigerian-Bajan singer, songwriter, and record executive.1 Born on July 19, 1991, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, he is recognized as the pioneer of “Banku Music,” a fusion of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian chord progressions and patterns.
Mr. Eazi’s musical journey began in Ghana, where he moved to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. It was during this time that he started experimenting with music, blending Ghanaian highlife rhythms with Nigerian hip-hop and R&B influences.
His breakthrough came with the release of his debut mixtape, “About to Blow,” in 2013. The mixtape featured hit songs like “Bankulize” and “Skin Tight,” which gained significant traction both locally and internationally. Mr. Eazi’s unique sound and infectious energy quickly made him a rising star in the African music scene.
In 2017, he released his critically acclaimed mixtape, “Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra to Lagos,” which further solidified his position as a global artist. The mixtape featured collaborations with renowned artists such as Major Lazer, Diplo, and Skepta.
Beyond his music career, Mr. Eazi is also a successful entrepreneur. He founded emPawa Africa, a music distribution and artist development platform aimed at empowering African artists. He has also been involved in various philanthropic initiatives, including the emPawa Africa Fund, which provides financial support to emerging African artists.
