Black Sherif
Black Sherif, whose real name is Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kwaku Frimpong, is a rising star in the Ghanaian music scene. Born on January 9, 2002, in Konongo, Ashanti Region, Ghana, Black Sherif has quickly gained popularity with his unique blend of highlife, afrobeats, hip-hop, and drill music.
Early Life and Education
Black Sherif grew up in Konongo-Zongo, where he lived with his aunt and other extended family members due to his parents working overseas. He attended Konongo Zongo Islamic Basic School and later moved to Kumasi Academy for his secondary education. He developed an interest in music and dancing during his school years.
Career
Black Sherif began his career in 2019 with the release of his song “Cry for Me” on YouTube. His breakthrough came in 2021 with the release of “First Sermon”, which gained significant attention. He followed up with “Second Sermon” in July 2021, featuring a remix with Burna Boy. His hit single “Kwaku the Traveller” in March 2022 propelled him to international fame, reaching number one on the Ghanaian and Nigerian Apple Music charts.
In October 2022, Black Sherif released his debut album, “The Villain I Never Was,” which received critical acclaim and earned him several awards, including Best New Artist and Best Hip Hop Song at the 2022 Ghana Music Awards.
Personal Life
Black Sherif is currently studying at the University of Ghana, having previously attended the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA). He keeps his personal life private but is known to have a girlfriend.
