Bella Shmurda, whose real name is Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, is a talented Nigerian singer and songwriter. Born on January 27, 1996, in Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria, Bella Shmurda has quickly risen to fame with his unique blend of Afrobeats, street pop, and Afro-fusion music.
Early Life and Education
Bella Shmurda grew up in a polygamous family in Ikorodu and is the last child among ten siblings. He began his journey in the arts through his elementary school band and cultural dance troupe. He later attended secondary school in Badagry and earned a bachelor’s degree in History and International Relations from Lagos State University.
Career
Bella Shmurda gained public attention with his debut single “Vision 2020” in 2019, which caught the interest of Nigerian rapper Olamide. Olamide did a remix of the song, and it went viral with the help of a video by dancer Poco Lee. This success encouraged Bella Shmurda to release his first EP, “High Tension,” in January 2020.
He continued to release popular songs like “Cash App” featuring Zlatan and Lincoln, and “Jojo“. In 2021, he was nominated for several awards, including the Next Rated Award at The Headies and won the Global Collaboration of the Year and Global Most Popular Song of the Year at the Global Music Awards Africa.
Personal Life
Bella Shmurda is known for his dedication to his craft and his involvement in social causes. He is the leader of Dangbana Republik, a collective of creatives in Lagos that supports community and humanitarian projects.
