Bebe Cool, whose real name is Moses Ssali, is a well-known Ugandan reggae and ragga musician. Born on September 1, 1977, in Kampala, Uganda, Bebe Cool has been a prominent figure in the East African music scene for over two decades.
Early Life and Education
Bebe Cool grew up in Kampala and attended Aga Khan Primary School, Kitante Hill School, and Makerere College School. He started his music career while still in high school, where he was an entertainment prefect.
Career
Bebe Cool began his career around 1997 in Nairobi, Kenya, before moving back to Uganda a few years later. He was one of the first artists affiliated with Ogopa DJs, a production house and record label in Kenya. Some of his popular singles include Fitina and Mambo Mingi. He has also collaborated with artists like Halima Namakula on the crossover track Sambagala
Bebe Cool has released two solo albums, Maisha and Sente, and has been a part of the East African Bashment Crew, a reggae group formed with Kenyan duo Necessary Noize. The group released an album titled “Fire” and two hit singles, *Africa Unite” and “Fire”.
Personal Life
Bebe Cool is known for his philanthropic efforts and his support for President Yoweri Museveni. He was elected as the finance minister of the Uganda National Musicians’ Federation (UNMF) in 2023.
